How to draw a bubble letter Z

1. Pencil a top bar, a diagonal from its right end to the bottom left, and a bottom bar.
2. Outline everything as one shape, rounding the four bar ends.
3. Round the two corners where the diagonal meets the bars.
4. Leave the two triangular gaps open.

The tricky part

Z and S are the letters most often drawn backwards. If you are drawing from memory, write a normal Z in pencil first and puff it out from there.

Lowercase bubble z

The lowercase z is the capital at x-height. Some bubble fonts give it a slight curve on the diagonal, which is fine as long as both bars stay flat.

Bubble letter Z sizes and page counts

Letter height here is the height of the capital, the number you would measure on the wall. The width follows from the shape of the Z, which in the Bubble style is about as wide as a typical capital. Page counts assume a 10 mm printer margin and the orientation that needs fewer sheets.

The largest Z that fits on a single Letter sheet is 8.5 inches tall, printed portrait. For a bulletin board, 6 to 8 inches reads from the back of a classroom; for a door or a banner, 10 to 12 inches.
