About Bubble Letter Maker

Bubble Letter Maker makes printable letters at the size you actually need. Most printable bubble letters online are a fixed PDF: one alphabet, one size, printed a letter at a time. That is fine for a single initial and no use for a name eight inches tall or a birthday banner across a doorway. Here you type the words, choose the height of a capital in inches, and the maker works out how many sheets of paper it takes, tiles the letters across them, and adds crop marks and sheet numbers so they tape back together in the right order.

The same site makes name tracing worksheets and handwriting practice sheets, because the people who print bulletin-board letters (teachers, parents, homeschoolers) are usually the same people who need name practice for a class list.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser. The letter shapes ship with the page, and the preview, the PDF and the SVG are all drawn by the same code on your own device. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored, there is no account, and there is no watermark. The PDFs are set to print at actual size, so a letter set to 6 inches measures 6 inches on the paper as long as your printer is not set to Fit to page.

The sizes and page counts quoted on the letter pages are computed from the letter shapes when the site is built, not typed in by hand, so they match what the maker prints.

Fonts and credits

The four letter styles are drawn from openly licensed fonts. Printing them, and selling things made with what you print, is allowed under these licences.

The tracing worksheets use the Hershey Sans and Hershey Script single-stroke fonts, which is why each dotted letter is one clean line to follow rather than the outline of a thick letter. As their licence requires: the Hershey Fonts were originally created by Dr. A. V. Hershey while working at the U. S. National Bureau of Standards. The format of the font data in this distribution was originally created by James Hurt, Cognition, Inc. The SVG versions used here were prepared by Windell H. Oskay of Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories.

Who runs it

Bubble Letter Maker is built and maintained by Madhu, a software engineer who builds small, free tools that do one job properly.
